Amazon is enhancing home security through Alexa with innovative features like Alexa Guard, designed to monitor your home while you're away. Following its acquisition of Ring—renowned for smart doorbells—Amazon has expanded into comprehensive smart home security solutions, with Alexa Guard as the latest addition.
Alexa Guard leverages the microphones in your Echo smart speakers and an internet connection to detect suspicious sounds, such as breaking glass, smoke alarms, or carbon monoxide detectors. Upon detection, it instantly sends alerts to your phone. You can also configure it to notify your existing home security provider.

Randomizing lights to simulate occupancy is a proven deterrent for burglars, and Alexa Guard makes this seamless. It learns your lighting patterns—when and where you turn lights on and off—and automates them naturally to mimic your presence.
Beyond Ring devices, Alexa Guard integrates with third-party systems. Activating it upon leaving home shares status updates with your provider. Amazon has partnered with ADT for professional monitoring, with more collaborations expected soon.
The software update for Alexa Guard is imminent, given Amazon's frequent device updates, bringing this capability to Echo owners shortly.
