As a long-time Mac user and productivity enthusiast, I've always appreciated how macOS evolves with subtle yet powerful updates. macOS Sierra introduces several under-the-radar enhancements that streamline organization, multitasking, and daily workflows. These four features, in particular, transform how you manage your desktop and apps.
In macOS Sierra, switching audio devices is now effortless. Click the volume icon in the menu bar to reveal a redesigned horizontal slider and a list of output options. Select your preferred device instantly.
Hold the Option key while clicking to access input devices too. This eliminates the need to dive into System Preferences, saving precious seconds during calls or media sessions.
Declutter your menu bar with ease. Previously limited to system icons, you can now drag any third-party icon to your desired position. Hold the Command key, then click and drag for full control.
Extend tab functionality across apps, including third-party ones. Keep multiple documents in one window, just like in Safari, to reduce desktop clutter.
Enable it in System Preferences under the Dock tab: Choose from Always, Full screen only, or Manually via the "Prefer tabs when opening documents" dropdown.
In Safari, Control-click a compatible video and select Enter Picture in Picture, or use the PiP icon. Drag and resize the floating window anywhere on screen.
Pro Tip: For YouTube, Control-click the video to open its menu, then Control-click again to access Apple's PiP option.
