While major overhauls grab headlines, it's the thoughtful details that truly enhance everyday use. Apple highlighted big-picture changes at WWDC 2016, but these three subtle yet powerful features in iOS 10's Apple Music update deserve attention.
Previously, blending iTunes purchases, imported tracks, and Apple Music streams in one library created confusion across devices. The iTunes app on Mac and PC felt cluttered after adding the subscription service.
In iOS 10, Apple clearly separates subscription content from downloads. A dedicated "Downloaded" section puts your iTunes purchases and Apple Music downloads front and center—ideal for offline listening. Everything else streams from your library. Distinct Download and Add to Library buttons further simplify choices: spot the Download icon for owned tracks (streamable from the cloud too), or add subscription-eligible songs directly.
3D Touch gets a boost in the redesigned Music app. Start with the home screen widget: press the Music icon for quick access to recent albums and playlists.
