The coding period for the 4th BSV Hackathon kicked off on June 14, 2021, and runs six weeks until July 26. Registration stays open throughout, inviting individual developers and teams to dive into this premier blockchain competition. This year’s prize pool reaches $100,000: $50,000 for first place, $30,000 for second, and $20,000 for third.
nChain CTO Steve Shadders, a major hackathon backer, said: “I’ve always said our role is to provide the infrastructure and let the ecosystem innovate on it—with $100,000 wagered for winners, we’re putting our money where our mouth is. I’m thrilled to see the creative approaches and standout projects from participants.”
Developers are tasked with building peer-to-peer apps on the BSV Blockchain using Service SPV Channels and Merchant API (mAPI)—not just payments, but any innovative use case. Post-coding, three finalists pitch live at the October CoinGeek Conference.
“This month’s SPV Channels CE v1.1.0 release adds a vital service to BSV, fueling our scaling vision. This hackathon highlights it, challenging builders to unlock Bitcoin’s true peer-to-peer promise,” Shadders explained.
Launched in 2019 by the Switzerland-based Bitcoin Association—champion of BSV enterprise adoption—the event spotlights blockchain’s real-world potential. It draws global talent to prove BSV’s unmatched stability, security, scalability, and transparency.
Bitcoin Association founding president Jimmy Nguyen noted: “Educating developers is core to us. BSV’s unlimited scaling, massive throughput, and data prowess make it developers’ dream platform. Past hackathons launched businesses—I can’t wait for this round’s breakthroughs.”
It’s prime for networking, honing skills, and market launches. Brothers Connor, Dylan, and Kevin Murray placed second in 2019’s second event, won grants via Pitch Day, and turned TrueReviews into thriving BriteVue.
