The Secret to the Perfect Selfie: A Genuine Smile, Backed by Kruidvat Research

Forget duck faces or fish gapes—the true key to the perfect selfie is a genuine smile. Over 72% prefer authentic expressions, according to a Kruidvat study on smartphone habits among Dutch people. Nailing that shot isn't quick: 53% succeed after about 10 attempts. As the ultimate selfie inspiration for both women and men, George Clooney tops the list at 63%, followed by Doutzen Kroes (47%), Oprah Winfrey (31%), Cristiano Ronaldo (21%), Justin Bieber (10%), and Kim Kardashian (13%).

Editing with filters is surprisingly uncommon at 19%, and facial tricks like duck faces appeal to just 9%. Most need around 10 tries, but nearly 20% take countless photos hoping for one gem.

Smartphones are essential—80% can't live without them, and 48% use theirs all day. Yet 40% suffer hand cramps and muscle pain, while 20% feel fatigued enough to lose sleep. One in five stresses over a low battery, so 42% stay prepared at all costs.

Social media ranks top for 55%, with WhatsApp indispensable for 75%. Snapchat? Just 1% can't quit it.
