What is a Y-strainer valve

When debris, such as rust or scale, and other materials mix with fluids or gases, and other fluids are then allowed to flow through a line, they can damage the seats of valve from the line and therefore shorten the life of the valve, not to mention faulty and damaged equipment. Therefore, the use of properly selected strainers in the correct locations is essential to protect expensive and critical downstream equipment such as control valves, flow meters, steam traps, pumps, etc. In this article, we have accumulated basic information about strainer valve provided by Chinese Y-Strainer Manufacturer . Keep reading to learn more about strainers and how to install them in a system.

What is a strainer valve?

Strainer valves can be known to be pipe fittings where the hypothetical liquid must pass to purify, filter or separate it from the solid matter. Any object used to filter a liquid or any device functioning as a sieve or filter used to prevent the hypothetical solid matter from mixing with our hypothetical liquid. Strainers prevent pipeline debris such as pipe dope, weld metal, scale and rust in pipelines, protecting equipment and chemical processes from their harmful effects, and thus reducing downtime and maintenance.

Different types of strainer valves

Strainers can be divided into two main categories based on their body configuration:

-Type Y

-T-type/basket type

Y-type filter

The AY type strainer valve derives its name from its configuration and is generally used in liquids, gases or liquids under pressure. They can also be used under suction and vacuum conditions. Y filters have been designed for applications where small amounts of solid particles are expected and where maintenance is expected to be infrequent. If the solids are easily evacuated from the screen and the fluids can be vented to the atmosphere, a purge valve on the drain port will allow cleaning without removing the screen and without disturbing the flow of the process.

The AY type filter has the advantage of being installed in a horizontal or vertical position. In either case, the screening element must be on the underside of the strainer body so that the trapped material can be properly collected.

In horizontal steam or gas piping, Y-types should be installed so that the pocket is on the horizontal plane. This prevents water from accumulating in the pocket, which can cause erosion and affect heat transfer processes.
