Xiaomi's devices have exploded in popularity thanks to their unbeatable value and feature-packed performance. MIUI, their custom Android skin, is no exception—though it can feel overwhelming at first. We've covered 15 standout MIUI features before, but as a daily user of my Redmi Note 4G, I've uncovered five more practical tweaks that elevate your experience without any third-party apps.
Pro Tip: Check out our video tour of MIUI features to see how it stands out from stock Android.
Many MIUI lock screen themes include a camera shortcut, but there's a faster way. Head to Settings > Device > Buttons and enable Long press back to take photos.

Now, long-press the back button on the lock screen to instantly launch the camera and snap a photo. It captures after a brief delay, so frame your shot while pressing.
MIUI's notification lights pulse for calls, messages, and apps—all blue by default. Distinguish them easily by changing colors.

Go to Settings > Notification light to pick from seven colors per type, with a live preview. Disable if preferred.
Go beyond volume control with your headphones—remap buttons for music playback on MIUI.

Plug in headphones, open Settings > Headphones, choose an action, and select Assign buttons. Calibrate volume keys and you're set.
MIUI's stellar music controls shine on the lock screen. Double-tap the center ring to jump into music mode from the standard lock screen.

It launches your default player. To switch (e.g., to Google Play Music), go to app settings and set defaults.

Monitor upload/download speeds live on the status bar for Wi-Fi or data—bytes per second, not bits.

Enable via Settings > Notifications > Show connection speed. Perfect for testing new networks.
