Opera’s browser once featured My Opera, a popular platform for blogs and communities. With My Opera now shutting down, users must export their content and transition to new platforms. As WordPress experts at WPBeginner, we’ve guided thousands through migrations from services like Tumblr, Blogger, and WordPress.com. Here’s our proven process to move your My Opera content to self-hosted WordPress.
Third-party blogging platforms impose limits on customization and risk sudden shutdowns, as My Opera users have experienced—and it won’t be the last. A self-hosted WordPress.org site offers full control, unlimited flexibility, and reliability.
Note: Self-hosted WordPress.org differs from WordPress.com. Check our detailed comparison guide to decide confidently.
You’ll need a domain name and reliable WordPress hosting. We recommend Bluehost, an official WordPress-recommended host offering WPBeginner users a free domain and 50% off hosting. Their one-click installs make setup effortless.
Log into My Opera, click the wrench icon (top right), and select Account.

On your account page, click Blog Settings.

Click the prominent blue Export your blog button.

My Opera will process your WordPress-compatible export and email a download link. Check your inbox, download the XML file, and save it securely.
Install WordPress on your host—it takes just minutes with our 5-minute installation tutorial. Once live, proceed to import.
Log into your WordPress dashboard and navigate to Tools » Import.
Scroll to find WordPress importer (My Opera exports are WordPress XML format). Click it to install the importer plugin.

Click Install Now, then Activate Plugin & Run Importer.

Upload your XML file via Choose file and click Upload file and import. Map authors if needed, then proceed.

Your posts will import seamlessly. Welcome to WordPress—the world’s leading platform for sites of all sizes.
