The revamped Messages app in macOS Big Sur is now a Catalyst app, delivering identical functionality across Mac, iPhone, and iPad—including mentions, inline replies, and pinned group chats.
Pinning conversations is a game-changer for frequent users. Pin up to nine key threads to the top of your list for instant access. In pinned group chats, recent messages trigger animated Memoji or avatars around the pin, signaling activity.
You'll also preview photos from the last three participants. Right-click (or two-finger tap) a conversation and select Pin. To unpin, drag it back to the main list.
