Keeping your web browser current is essential for protection against malware and to enjoy the latest features and enhancements.
As a longtime Chrome user, I've found that updates typically install automatically when you restart the browser. But if you leave it open for days—like many of us do—it might skip them. Manual checks ensure you're always protected.
Spot an update needed? Check the three dots ("More") in the top-right corner. You'll see "Update" on a colored background: green for less than two days ago, yellow for about four days, red for at least four days but less than a week since the last update, per Google.
To confirm your version or trigger an update:

Here, click "Update Google Chrome" if available (no button means you're current). Or hit "Relaunch" to apply a downloaded update.

If updates fail or issues persist, reinstall Chrome. First, back up bookmarks—especially on your main device:

Uninstall via your OS (follow Google's system-specific steps). Then download fresh from google.com/chrome and reinstall. Sign in to restore bookmarks, extensions, and settings—or import your HTML backup via Bookmarks > Import bookmarks > Bookmark HTML file.
