Android's built-in sound enhancements are limited, lacking options for bass boost or equalizer adjustments out of the box. While apps like Poweramp and doubleTwist offer equalizers for local files, they fall short for streaming services like Spotify, which dominate our listening habits today.
To address this for music enthusiasts, I've tested two exceptional sound enhancer apps that deliver superior audio across all apps on Android—one for non-rooted devices and one for rooted phones.
Despite its unusual name, Noozxoide EIZO-Rewire PRO excels at digitally enhancing your Android device's audio output. Available on the Google Play Store, it's compatible with any Android phone. Remarkably, its last update was in January 2013, yet it performs reliably today.
Upon launch, select from three output modes: line-out (headphones/external speakers), speakers (internal), or wireless (Bluetooth devices). This app processes audio from virtually any source in high quality.

In my hands-on tests with Monster DNA headphones and JBL Bluetooth speakers, the improvements were noticeable. Unlike basic equalizers, it offers surround sound, digital presets, and more. Experiment with settings via trial and error to dial in your ideal sound. To disable, access App Info from the notification drawer and force close it.

Pro Tip: For a straightforward equalizer, try the Universal Equalizer app on Android.
For rooted devices, Viper4Android Audio Effects is the gold standard. Root access installs necessary audio libraries and drivers. Grant root on first launch, install drivers, then reboot.

Note: Choose Great audio quality during setup. It requires a dual-core processor and 1GB RAM minimum.
Then, in Android Settings > Sound > Music enhancement, select Viper4Android.

Customize extensively for speakers, headphones, or Bluetooth with a robust equalizer and presets. Tweak combinations to perfect your audio.

Not every setting is intuitive—even for me—but your ears are the best judge. Test various combos safely, especially with headphones at moderate volumes. These apps transform streaming into an audiophile experience.
