Samsung has unveiled the Exynos W920, its first wearable processor built on the advanced 5nm EUV process node. This chip is poised to drive upcoming devices like the highly anticipated Galaxy Watch 4.

Samsung's Exynos W920: A Leap Forward on 5nm

The Exynos W920 integrates an LTE modem, dual Cortex-A55 cores, and a Mali-G68 GPU—delivering up to 10x the graphics performance of its predecessor. This upgrade promises smoother interfaces and richer visuals on future smartwatches and wearables.

Crafted on the efficient 5nm node, the chip packs more power into a smaller footprint, aligning with industry trends toward compact, high-performance silicon.

It also includes a dedicated Cortex-M55 core to efficiently manage always-on displays—a standout feature for smartwatches that keeps essential info visible at a glance without draining battery.

Harry Cho, VP of System LSI Marketing at Samsung Electronics, shared: "With the Exynos W920, future wearables will deliver visually stunning UIs, responsive experiences, and reliable LTE connectivity on the go."

The chip supports Samsung's new unified wearable platform, co-developed with Google, debuting on the next Galaxy Watch model. This confirms leaks about the Galaxy Watch 4 and strengthens the Samsung-Google partnership blending Wear OS and Tizen strengths. Expect official details at the Unpacked event on August 11, 2021.
