iOS 14 Guide: How to Force Quit a Frozen or Crashing App on iPhone

Even reliable iOS apps can occasionally crash, freeze, or stop responding. If you're running iOS 14 on your iPhone and need to force quit a problematic app, follow these straightforward steps—drawn from years of hands-on iOS troubleshooting.

• Open the App Switcher: Swipe up from the bottom of the screen and pause in the middle (or double-tap the Home button on models with one).
• Swipe left or right to locate the app preview you want to close.
• Swipe up on the app preview to quit it.

Note: iOS doesn't offer a way to close all apps at once; you'll need to swipe them individually.

If swiping doesn't resolve the issue, restart your iPhone: Press and hold the side button plus a volume button until the power off slider appears, then swipe to shut down. (On Home button models, hold the side or top button instead.)
