How to Downgrade iPhone from iOS 15 Beta to Stable iOS 14.6: Tested Guide

Beta software like iOS 15 lets you preview new features, but it's often unstable for daily use. If you've updated your iPhone to the public iOS 15 beta and need to revert to reliable iOS 14.6, you have options. I've guided countless users through this process.

The easiest way is to remove the beta profile and wait for the next stable update:

  • Go to Settings > General
  • Select Profiles & Device Management
  • Tap Delete Profile, then restart your iPhone

Check availability in Settings > General > Software Update. You'll need to wait for Apple's release—no instant downgrade here.

For immediate results, perform a full recovery using your computer. First, connect your iPhone to an up-to-date Mac or PC. I tested these steps on my MacBook Pro; they work on Windows too.

Enter recovery mode (direct from Apple's support docs):

  • For iPhone 8 or later: Press and quickly release volume up. Press and quickly release volume down. Press and hold side button until recovery screen appears.
  • For iPhone 7, 7 Plus, or iPod touch (7th gen): Press and hold Sleep/Wake and Volume Down. Keep holding past Apple logo until recovery screen.
  • For iPhone 6s/earlier, iPad with Home, iPod touch (6th gen/earlier): Press and hold Sleep/Wake and Home. Hold past Apple logo to recovery.

Your iPhone shows a cable-to-computer icon. On your computer:

  • Select Restore in the Update/Restore/Cancel dialog.

Your iPhone is now on iOS 14.6—but factory fresh. Restore your data from a pre-beta backup (you did back up first, right?).

  • Setup screen: Tap Configure Manually.
  • Join Wi-Fi.
  • Choose restore from iCloud, Mac/PC, etc.
  • Enter Apple ID and verification code.
  • Select a compatible iOS 14 backup (avoid iOS 15 ones).
  • Data transfers; full access quick, but apps/data download over time.
