How to Share Your iPhone or iPad Screen via FaceTime with SharePlay in iOS 15.1

One of the standout features introduced in iOS 15.1 is SharePlay, enabling seamless screen sharing during FaceTime calls on your iPhone or iPad. This lets you enjoy movies, music, and other media together with friends and family in real time.

Currently, SharePlay supports content from Apple TV+, Apple Music (for subscribers), and select third-party apps. In my testing, sharing a YouTube video worked flawlessly, alongside apps like HBO Max, Hulu, and Disney+ (though Netflix is not yet supported). Apple continues to expand compatibility.

Getting started is straightforward once you've updated to iOS 15.1:

  • Launch a FaceTime call and confirm all participants are on iOS 15.1 or later.
  • Tap the SharePlay icon (a figure in front of a screen) in the top-right corner.
  • Select "Share My Screen" from the dropdown to instantly share your display.

Now you can showcase your home screen, stream a YouTube video, or sync Apple Music playback. To view the other person's screen, they simply tap their SharePlay icon.

Alternatively, open a compatible app during the call—a prompt will appear asking if you'd like to SharePlay the content or play it solo.

To stop, return to FaceTime, tap the SharePlay icon, and choose "End SharePlay."

SharePlay transforms FaceTime into a versatile tool for shared viewing, collaborative work like reviewing spreadsheets, or browsing group photos. With more apps on the horizon, its potential is immense.
