How to Enable Dark Mode in Google Maps on iOS: Quick and Easy Steps

Google announced dark mode for its iOS Maps app back in August, with a full rollout in early September. It arrived so seamlessly that even several of our experienced team members overlooked it until in-app notifications appeared. If you haven't spotted it yet, here's our straightforward guide to activating it.

Open the Google Maps app on your iPhone or iPad. Tap your profile picture in the top-right corner, select "Settings," then choose "Dark mode" under the Maps usage section. You'll find three options: On, Off, or "Same as device" (which syncs automatically with your iOS system settings).

Android users got this feature earlier this year via a slightly different path: Tap your profile picture, go to "Settings," select "Theme," and pick from the same three choices.

For the smoothest experience, we recommend selecting "Same as device" to keep Google Maps in harmony with your other apps. Ultimately, the choice is yours.
