As experienced professionals who rely on Adobe Acrobat DC products (Pro, Standard, and Reader) for daily PDF workflows, we've mastered its powerful features while addressing common usability quirks. Following our guides on hiding the Tools pane and removing tabbed view, today we tackle the Recents list—a handy but privacy-sensitive feature.

The Recents list offers quick access to recently opened files, but it can expose sensitive documents if you share your device. Deleting items only removes shortcuts, not the actual files. We'll show you how to clear the list or disable it entirely on desktop and mobile.
All versions of Adobe Acrobat DC on desktop let you easily remove or disable the Recents list. Note: Adobe syncs cloud-based recent files (marked with a cloud icon) across signed-in devices.
In the Recents list, hover over an item, click the checkbox on the left to select it, then choose Remove from recent in the pane that appears. Select multiple items for bulk removal.

For quicker selection with many items, check the box below "Recent" to select all, then uncheck keepers.

To clear everything, click Clear recent in the bottom-right corner and confirm.

To stop the list from populating:
Step 1: Go to Edit > Preferences.

Step 2: Under Documents, set Documents in recently used list to 0.

Step 3: Click OK. No recent files will appear going forward.

Cloud files may still sync across devices. Previously accessed files could reappear if you increase the limit later.
Mobile apps (Android/iOS) don't allow disabling Recents but support clearing items. Warning: The Delete option removes the actual file—use Remove from recent for shortcuts only.
Tap the three-dot icon next to an item and select Remove from recent.

For multiples: Long-press to select, check items, tap three-dots top-right, then Remove from recent.

Clear all: Tap three-dots (no selection) > Clear recent.

Tap three-dots > Select for multi-select (no long-press). Choose items, tap Remove from recent (avoid trash icon).

Cloud deletions sync across devices.
The Recents list boosts productivity but risks privacy. These steps make management simple. We hope mobile apps add disable options soon.
