As a long-time Opera user and browser customization expert, I've helped countless professionals streamline their setup to boost productivity. If you're new to Opera, its vibrant start page—packed with headlines, oversized Speed Dial thumbnails, and a persistent sidebar with messaging icons—can feel overwhelming. Here's how to disable these elements step by step for a distraction-free experience.

Opera is incredibly customizable, making it easy to tailor the interface to your needs. Below, I'll walk you through the quickest methods to turn off these UI distractions.
Flashing headlines on every new tab or start page can derail your focus. Removing the news feed is essential for productivity.
Step 1: From the start page or new tab, click the Easy Setup icon in the upper-right corner.

Step 2: In the Easy Setup menu, toggle off Show News in the Appearance section.

Done! The news feed is now gone.
Personal News acts like an RSS reader, streaming articles via the sidebar. To hide it, right-click the sidebar and uncheck Personal News.

For complete control, type Settings in the address bar, press Enter, go to Advanced, scroll to Personal News, and set Check my sources for new content to Never.

Also, disable the news icon in the address bar by toggling off Show available news feeds in the address bar on the same screen.
The sidebar's messengers like WhatsApp show distracting badges. Right-click the sidebar, select Sidebar Settings, and toggle off Enable notification badges for messengers.

To remove the icons entirely, uncheck them in the Customize Items section.
The sidebar is useful but intrusive. Right-click it and select Undock Sidebar to limit it to start pages and new tabs only.

This frees up screen space while retaining access when needed.
Suggestions below Speed Dial pull from your history and raise privacy concerns. In Easy Setup, toggle off Show Speed Dial Suggestions.

For a blank start, go to Settings > Advanced > Start Page, and toggle on Hide Speed Dial.

In Easy Setup, toggle off Show bookmarks bar. Or use Ctrl+Shift+B.

Extensions appear in a left-side bar. Right-click it and select Hide Extensions Bar, or use Ctrl+Shift+E.

The text selection toolbar can interrupt copying. In Settings, under Context Search, toggle off Enable Context Search When Selecting Text.

Step 1: Settings > Advanced > Privacy and Security > Content Settings.

Step 2: Select Notifications.

Step 3: Enable Ask before sending (recommended) and remove allowed sites.
