If you've decided it's time to delete your TikTok account, the good news is that it's a straightforward process that typically takes just a few minutes—assuming you're logged in or know your password. You can handle it through the app on iOS or Android, or via the web. As a social media expert with years of experience advising users on platform management, I've outlined the exact steps below to ensure you do it safely and securely.

Delete Your TikTok Account via the App
TikTok simplifies account deletion right from the iOS or Android app.
- Navigate to your profile, then tap the three lines in the upper-right corner to access "Settings & Privacy."
- Select "Manage Account" > "Delete Account."

- TikTok will ask why you're leaving; choose an option or skip it using the button in the upper-right corner.
- Next, decide if you want to download your data first (covered below), then tap the acknowledgment at the bottom to proceed.

- Review the 30-day reactivation window and details on what you'll lose, like access to your posted videos.
- Tap "Continue" for verification: Enter the code TikTok sends or sign in with your linked service (e.g., Apple, Google).
- Finally, hit "Delete Account" and confirm. The app will refresh, logging you out.
Delete Your TikTok Account via the Web
You can also deactivate from TikTok.com.
- Log in, hover over your profile picture in the top-right, and click "Settings."
- If needed, select "Manage Account" from the left sidebar.
- Under Account Control, click "Delete" and follow the prompts.
Backup Your TikTok Data Before Deleting
To request your data download:
- In the app, go to Profile > Settings & Privacy > Privacy > Download your data.
- Choose TXT for readable format or JSON for programmatic use.
- Your file will appear under the Download Data tab once ready—TikTok notes it may take a few days, so plan ahead.
The download includes profile info, video/comment history, and settings—but not videos themselves. Download videos manually:
- From your profile, select a video.
- Tap the "…" button and choose "Record Video" (or equivalent save option).

How to Recover a Deleted TikTok Account
TikTok gives you 30 days to change your mind: Simply log back in to see a pending deactivation notice. Tap "Reactivate" to restore access, or "Logout" to proceed with deletion.
