Want to skyrocket conversions on your WordPress site with FOMO widgets? FOMO, or fear of missing out, taps into a powerful psychological trigger to create urgency and excitement around your products or services. As experienced WordPress marketers who've tested these tactics on our own sites, we'll walk you through proven methods to implement FOMO effectively.

FOMO describes the anxiety of missing out on something desirable and timely. Website owners like us leverage this innate human behavior to enhance marketing strategies and lift conversion rates.
Marketers have used FOMO for decades, but digital tools make it simpler and more impactful today. For eCommerce stores, it builds hype for sales, limited offers, and social proof on landing pages. It also grows email lists, powers affiliate campaigns, and boosts app downloads.
Here are two battle-tested techniques we've used successfully on our sites.
Social proof ignites FOMO by showing real user activity, building trust as visitors see others buying your products.

Install and activate the Proven plugin. See our detailed guide on installing WordPress plugins for steps.
Proven integrates with eCommerce platforms like WooCommerce or email services like MailChimp, displaying recent purchases and signups.
After activation, head to Proven » Settings to enter your license key from your plugin account.

Next, go to Proven » Add New to create your first notification.

Enter a campaign title and toggle it active (set inactive during setup). In the content section, select your notification source.
Proven connects with WooCommerce, MailChimp, or Easy Digital Downloads for automatic notifications. Or enter manual data if no cart plugin is used.

Customize templates with tags, filter products or lists, and set behavior rules like page targeting, user roles, delays, and mobile options.

In Appearance, tweak colors, shapes, and positioning.

Click Publish. Visit your site to see it live.

Urgency timers are a classic: they push visitors to act before deals vanish, from flash sales to coupons.

OptinMonster, our go-to conversion tool, turns visitors into customers effortlessly.
Sign up for OptinMonster (Plus plan minimum for floating bars). Install the WordPress plugin and connect via API key from your account.

Click Create New Campaign, choose Floating Bar with Countdown theme.

Name it, select your site, and enter the Builder.

In Optin, pick static or dynamic countdown (static is fixed; dynamic adapts to behavior). Position the bar top or bottom, edit text, add coupons/links.
Once satisfied, click Publish at the top. Toggle Status to active on the campaign page.

Back in WordPress OptinMonster, refresh Campaigns and click Go Live.

View your site to see the FOMO timer in action.
