Messenger Rooms let you create virtual spaces from your Facebook profile, groups, events, or Messenger app. No app download or account required—just share the link. Ideal for celebrations, online classes, or casual chats with like-minded friends.
Follow these expert-tested steps to get started.
In the Messenger app, tap the People tab at the bottom, then select Create Room at the top.

Once created, tap Share Link to copy and send via any app, or choose from the share menu.

On web Messenger, click the room icon at the top of your chat list.

Click Join, then View Call Participants to copy the invite link under Invite people.

By default, anyone with the link can join. Limit to Facebook users only by tapping Edit next to Who can join on mobile before sharing.
Note: This option is unavailable on web Messenger for now.

Tip: Creating from News Feed? Customize invites to all friends or select individuals.
Disable before joining by tapping the camera icon on mobile, or swipe up in-room and toggle Camera On.

On web, click the camera icon in the bottom toolbar.

Tip: On PC, use Alt + V to toggle video.
Double-tap the screen to flip between front and back cameras, just like in Stories. Or use the dedicated button at the bottom.

Tap the mic icon at the bottom on mobile to mute and listen quietly.

Tip: A bar over an icon means it's off.
On desktop, use the bottom toolbar mic. (Note: No global mute for all like in Zoom.)

Tip: Alt + M mutes on PC.
Add AR effects or filters by tapping the Effects icon on your preview. Browse bottom tray and select. Remove with the leftmost icon.

360-degree backgrounds like Zoom's virtual ones are coming soon.
Switch cameras or use Snap Camera for filters (see our guide for Zoom/Teams—same process).
Click Settings (top), select from Camera dropdown, adjust mic if needed, and Save.

Swipe up and tap Speaker to route audio to earpiece—perfect for public spots.

Swipe up on mobile and tap Share your screen. Stop via preview. On desktop, click share icon for full screen, window, or Chrome tab.

Tip: Alt + S starts sharing on PC.
Creators: Prevent new joins via View Call Participants > Lock room toggle (desktop) or swipe up > Lock Room (mobile).

Note: Auto-locks if creator leaves or removes someone. Toggle off to unlock.
Swipe up > View Members/Manage Room (mobile). Creators: Tap X to remove. Auto-locks after.

On desktop: View Call Participants > Remove.

Tap/click hang-up. Rejoin via link if unlocked. Creator exit locks room—no end, just pauses new joins.

Creators only: With attendees, swipe up > View Members > End Room (mobile). Empty? X > End Room.

Desktop: View Participants > Settings > End Room.
