As an iOS enthusiast who's relied on Apple Notes for years, I've seen critics call Apple's built-in apps basic compared to App Store alternatives. That's true for power users seeking niche features, but for everyday iPhone owners, the pre-installed apps win for simplicity and seamless integration. Apple Notes stands out as my go-to note-taking app, continually enhanced with each iOS update.
Here's how to elevate your Apple Notes experience:
Use Apple Notes like a pro

Unlike Mail or Reminders where I often recommend third-party options, Apple Notes delivers robust features, reliable iCloud syncing, and deep iOS integration—perfect for most users.
These tips will show you why it's a powerhouse on iPhone.
Managing hundreds of notes requires smart organization. Apple Notes supports folders and even subfolders, much like Pages in Apple or Notebook in OneNote and Evernote.

I'd love to see tags added for even faster searches.
Keep vital notes at your fingertips: Open a note, tap the three-dot menu, and select Pin. Pinned notes appear in a dedicated section at the top.

Protect sensitive info with a password. In any note, tap the three-dot menu, choose Lock, set a password. A lock icon appears, hiding previews.

Long-press a note for quick actions like Pin, Lock, Share, Move, or Delete. Even press the app icon for instant new notes or checklists.

Switch views easily: In a folder, tap the three-dot menu and select View as Gallery or List. List view is my preference for efficiency.

Insert tables while editing via the table icon (starts 2x2). Convert to text anytime—a feature many apps lack.

For late-night note-taking, enable iOS Dark Mode via Control Center (long-press brightness). It reduces eye strain effortlessly.
iCloud's 5GB fills fast with media and backups. Keep notes local: Settings > Notes > enable "On My iPhone." Note: No cross-device sync.

iOS 14+ widgets (small, medium, large) let you preview notes from Home Screen. Check our guide on adding iOS widgets.

Say "Hey Siri, take a note" for hands-free dictation. It transcribes in real-time and saves to Notes.

Enable in Settings > Notes > Allow on Lock Screen > Always Create New Note. Add Notes to Control Center. Swipe down and tap to jot instantly.
