Imagine using a smartphone without a browser—it's simply unimaginable. While apps handle most tasks, a solid mobile browser is still essential for seamless web access. With plenty of options on the Play Store, Mi Browser shines for Xiaomi MIUI users, coming pre-installed alongside Chrome.
As experienced MIUI enthusiasts, we've tested these features extensively. If you prefer Mi Browser's lightweight performance and customization, these 15 tips will elevate your browsing. Let's dive in.
By default, swiping from the screen's left or right edge navigates back or forward—a handy feature many request in Chrome. However, accidental swipes can disrupt tasks like form-filling.
Mi Browser lets you repurpose these gestures to switch tabs instead. Open the menu (three-bar icon) at the bottom, go to Settings > Swipe from edge, and select Switch tab.

Skip the tab switcher: Long-press the tab icon in the bottom bar to reveal a delete option. Swipe up toward it without lifting your finger to instantly close the current tab.

Avoid the multi-tap process. Long-press the Mi Browser home icon to launch a new tab instantly.

Finding the address bar on large screens is awkward. Tap the three-bar menu icon instead—it opens the keyboard with the search bar ready.

For fast scrolling, grab the small handle that appears on the right edge during rapid gestures and drag it.

Mi Browser supports Bing, Google, and Yahoo. Tap the globe icon in the search bar to pick your preferred engine on the fly.

The Mi Browser home feed is visually busy and bandwidth-intensive. Set a custom start page to bypass it: Menu > Settings > Advanced > Set start page, then choose any webpage.

Manage files easily by changing where downloads save: Menu > Settings > Advanced > Download location.

Choose between vertical or horizontal tab views: Settings > Advanced > Multi-window management.

Protect your eyes with dark mode: Tap the three-bar menu, then the crescent moon icon.

Auto-activate reader view for text-heavy sites: Settings > Reading mode > Schedule, and set your preferred times.

Share long URLs easily:
Step 1: Open the site.
Step 2: Tap the address bar and select QR code.

Step 3: Save the generated code to your gallery.

Swipe up on the home screen to access categories like cricket, tech, and entertainment.

Customize content language: Tap the language icon next to feed categories.

No need for the tab switcher—tap the three-bar menu and select Exit browser to clear everything.

For quick access: Open the site, tap the three-bar menu, select Shortcut > Home screen.

The shortcut appears on your home screen for direct Mi Browser access.

Mi Browser is a strong Chrome alternative, but Xiaomi has launched the ad-free Mint Browser (just 11MB) for all Android devices. It may eventually replace Mi Browser.
