As a core part of any Android device, the Google Phone app is essential for making calls. Stock Android devices come pre-installed with it, and these proven tips—drawn from years of hands-on use—will help you unlock its full potential for smoother daily communication.

We interact with the Phone app constantly, yet many of its powerful features go untapped. Below, discover 18 practical tips and hidden gems to enhance your calling experience.
Spot a number anywhere in the app? Just tap it to copy to your clipboard—works even with the keypad open. From the Recents tab, long-press a contact name and select 'Copy number' for instant access without opening details.

Avoid misdials: Long-press a number in the app and choose 'Edit number before call' to tweak it on the keypad first.

Hit the home button mid-call? It shrinks to a movable floating bubble. Drag to reposition, or hold and swipe to end or hide it.

Use the built-in search for local businesses: Type a name in the search bar for quick results. First, enable it in Settings > Nearby places (grant location access).

Like old feature phones: Dial initials (e.g., 4367 for 'GEOR') on the keypad—matching contacts appear above for quick calling.

From Recents, tap a contact name then 'History' to see all interactions aggregated neatly.

Long-press in Recents and select 'Delete,' or go to History > three dots > 'Delete history.'

In a contact's History, swipe left or right on any entry to remove it instantly.

From Recents > three dots > 'Call history' for ungrouped views: 'All' tab shows everything by date; 'Missed' isolates unanswered calls.

On the Call History screen, tap three dots > 'Clear call history.'

Tap the contact photo in Recents for their complete profile, including numbers and linked accounts.

No speed dial? Use Favorites instead: Tap '+' in Favorites tab, or star a contact's photo in Recents/Contacts.
