Bring presentations to life
Animations draw and sustain attention, especially on dense slides packed with text, images, or objects. Hide elements until you're ready to reveal them, keeping focus sharp and interest high—upstream content stays concealed, preventing overload.
Let's explore these proven Google Slides animation techniques.
Note: Animations are available only in the web version of Google Slides, not on Android, iPhone, or iPad.
Start with slide transitions that activate when advancing during your presentation. Options include dissolve, slide, fade, flip, and bounce.
Right-click a slide in the left sidebar and select Transition.

The Motion sidebar opens on the right. Under Slide Transition, pick your effect and tweak speed with the slider.

Note: One transition per slide only.
Manually applying transitions slide-by-slide works for variety, but consistency shines in pro presentations. Apply to one slide, then in the Motion sidebar, click Apply to all slides.

Animate images, text, shapes, and more. Right-click an object and choose Animate, or select it and go to Insert > Animation.

In the Motion sidebar, default is Fade, but expand Object animations to select effects, start triggers (on click, after previous, with previous), and speed.

Layer effects on one object for dynamic sequences—add one, animate others in between, then return. Pure creativity in action.
Select the object, right-click for Animate, then hit Add animation in the Motion panel.

With multiple animations, reorder via drag-and-drop using the handle next to each in the Motion panel—control playback sequence precisely.

Track object-specific animations amid slide clutter: Go to View > Motion to open the panel.

Click the object to highlight its animations, or spot the object icons preceding them.

Preview without full slideshow: Click the Play button under Object animations in the Motion panel.

Reveal list items sequentially: Right-click the text box and select Animate, then check By paragraph.

This works for paragraphs too. Uncheck for simultaneous reveal.
Tip: Master hyperlinks, images, or objects in Google Slides.
For custom flair, place each item in its own text box and animate individually—endless creative potential.
Group elements first: Select with a drag box, right-click, and Animate. They'll appear together in the Motion panel.

For transitions: Open Motion (View > Motion), select None under Slide Transition.

For object animations: Select object to highlight, expand animation, and delete.

Animations unlock timelines, staggered charts, bulleted reveals, and beyond—but use sparingly. Less often means more impact. Explore more Google Slides tips to refine your workflow.
