As a daily Google Docs user with years of experience managing teams and projects, I rely on its speed, simplicity, and seamless collaboration. While Microsoft Word offers more advanced features, Google Docs excels in quick loading (try docs.new for instant access) and cross-device accessibility. Here are seven battle-tested tips I've used to streamline workflows on both web and mobile.

These tips, drawn from real-world use, will save you time and enhance efficiency across platforms. Let's dive in.
Outlines simplify navigation in lengthy documents. From the View menu, toggle 'Show document outline' or use Ctrl+Alt+A (Cmd+Option+A on Mac).

A sidebar appears, populating with headings for a live, nested view.

On mobile, enable via the menu; it displays at the screen bottom.

Remove unwanted items by tapping the 'X' icon next to them.

Default margins may not suit every project. Use the ruler's blue triangles to drag and adjust left/right margins visually.

For precise control or defaults, go to File > Page setup to set top, bottom, left, and right values.

Experiment to find your ideal setup. Note: Mobile doesn't support margin adjustments yet due to screen limitations.
Add a page anytime with Ctrl+Enter. Delete blank ones via Ctrl+Backspace.

For non-blank pages, select all (Ctrl+A), delete content, then use Ctrl+Backspace. No single button exists for full pages.

This works on mobile too—backspace after clearing content.
No dedicated button, but easy: Select text, then Format > Text > Strikethrough, or Alt+Shift+5 (same to remove).

Default is portrait, but switch for wide content like tables or images via File > Page setup > Landscape. Set as default if needed.

On mobile: Menu > Page setup > Orientation.

Insert > Headers & page numbers offers four options: top (all pages), top (skip first), bottom (all), bottom (skip first).

Mobile: Tap '+' > Page numbers for the same choices.
Quick view: Ctrl+Shift+C for words, characters, and pages.

Enable the bottom-left toggle for persistent display (reactivate per document).
With these tips, Google Docs becomes a powerhouse—free, ubiquitous, and Google-integrated. Some features are hidden, but practice unlocks its potential.
