How to Change Your PSN Online ID: Complete Guide for PS4, PS5, and Web Browser

Changing your PlayStation Network (PSN) online ID wasn't always straightforward. Sony introduced this feature in April 2019, allowing one free change per account. Additional changes cost $4.99 for PlayStation Plus subscribers or $9.99 otherwise.

Whether you're refreshing an outdated username or starting fresh, follow our expert guide. Note these important caveats first.

Most games released after April 1, 2018, support username changes seamlessly. Older PS4 titles may have issues—check Sony's list of affected games for details.

Before proceeding, be aware of potential impacts on your save data, trophies, and content:

• Your previous online ID may remain visible in some areas.
• You could lose game progress, leaderboards, or trophies.
• Some game features may not function online or offline.
• Access to purchased content like add-ons or virtual currency might be lost.

Using a Web Browser

• Sign in to your Sony Entertainment Network account.
• Click "Edit" next to your PSN Online ID.

• Acknowledge the warnings and click "I Agree."

• Review final warnings noting that reverting may not fix all issues, then proceed.

Using a PlayStation 4

• From the PS4 home screen, go to Settings > Account Management > Account Information > Profile > Online ID.
• Accept the displayed warnings.
• Enter and confirm your new Online ID.

Using a PlayStation 5

The PS5 process mirrors the PS4 with minor menu differences.

• From the PS5 home screen, go to Settings > Users and Accounts > Account > Profile.
• Acknowledge the warnings.
• Enter your PSN credentials, then input your new Online ID.

How to Recover Your Old Username
