Google Forms offers incredible flexibility for creating customized surveys, quizzes, and registrations. However, its default notification settings provide limited control. Out of the box, new responses don't trigger email alerts unless you enable them—and even then, those emails lack the actual response details. You'll still need to check your Google Forms dashboard manually.

Why switch tabs or waste time navigating to the dashboard when responses can land directly in your inbox? As someone who's managed dozens of forms for events, feedback, and lead gen, I've relied on a reliable Google Forms add-on to streamline this. It emails full responses instantly. Here's exactly how to set it up.
Step 1: Open the form in question and click the three-dot menu in the top-right corner.

Step 2: Choose Add-ons.

This launches the Google Workspace Marketplace. Search for and select Email Notifications for Google Forms.

Step 3: Click Install.

Step 4: Hit Continue and sign in with your Google account when prompted.

Step 5: Review permissions and click Allow.

You'll get a security confirmation email. Now the add-on is ready to deliver responses to your inbox.

Step 1: From your form editor, click the add-ons icon (puzzle piece) in the top-right.

Step 2: Select Email Notifications for Google Forms.

Step 3: Choose Create an email notification.

Step 4: Name your rule (e.g., match your form title for easy reference).

Step 5: Add the recipient email(s)—it can be your own or others.

Step 6: Click Save Rule.

New responses now arrive in email with full details—no dashboard required.

This add-on shines with its template editor, letting you pick exactly what appears in emails—like specific questions or metadata.
Step 1: Click Edit next to Use visual editor.

Step 2: Remove {{All Responses}} if desired, then use Add Form Field.

Step 3: Select questions from Answer to....

Step 4: Add extras like form URL, date, or ID from the Generic section.

Step 5: Save your template.

Google Forms add-ons like this transform basic forms into powerful tools. Get all responses in your inbox, customized to your needs—perfect for busy teams. I've cut hours off response tracking this way.
