Tired of Android notifications constantly interrupting you? As someone who's customized countless Samsung Galaxy devices over the years, I recommend enabling Do Not Disturb (DND) mode. It automatically silences non-essential alerts, letting you focus when you need to. Here's a straightforward setup guide for your Samsung Galaxy phone.
Do Not Disturb is a built-in feature on all Android devices, including Samsung's One UI. It might seem complex at first, but you'll only need to configure it once. After that, it runs seamlessly in the background. Let's dive in.
Start by swiping down from the top of your screen and tapping the gear icon to open Settings.
Navigate to Notifications > Do not disturb.
Begin with the "Exceptions" section, where you control which calls, messages, and apps can bypass DND. Tap "Calls, messages & conversations" to start.
Tap "Calls" and select from these options for who can reach you during DND:
Enable "Repeat callers" if you want a second call from the same person within 15 minutes to come through. Tap the back arrow when finished.
Repeat for messages: Tap "Messages" for the same contact options.
Next, handle "Conversations." Since Android 11, you can prioritize specific chats in messaging apps—like allowing urgent SMS but muting Facebook Messenger. Options include:
Tap the gear icon next to options for further tweaks.
Now, customize other alerts: Return to the main screen and select "Alarms and other interruptions."
Toggle the notifications you want to allow, like alarms or media sounds.
For apps, tap "Apps" to choose which can notify you during DND.
Tap "Add apps" and pick from the list. For each app, toggle specific notification types.
Then, select "Hide notifications" to control silenced alerts—choose if they show silently without sound or vibration.
Adjust options like no sounds, no vibrations, or use default settings.
Finally, add schedules: Under "Schedules," tap "Add schedule."
Name it, select days, and set start/end times.
Schedules handle routine use, but for on-demand activation:
Swipe down twice from the top for Quick Settings, then toggle Do Not Disturb (swipe right if needed).
Or go to Settings > Notifications > Do not disturb and toggle it on, with duration options.
That's it. With DND properly set up, you'll enjoy fewer interruptions and smarter notification management on your Samsung Galaxy.
